Description
Most authorities (meaning Texans) would agree that the song "Yellow Rose Of Texas" is about the Prickly Pear Cactus bloom as there were no yellow rose varieties in Texas when the song was written. Others might say that that the song is actually about an African-American going back to Texas to see his yellow Rose, "yellow" being the term used to describe a Mulatto woman in the mid-1800s when the song was written. Both good stories but I don't have a picture of Rose.

Thanks Bob, But I had to hunt high and low for an acceptable one in the right light. They grow like weeds here and if you can find one the bugs haven't gotten to, then they can be very pretty.

It has been so long since I have seen a cactus rose, I forgot what a good looking flower it is - excellent capture - v/f

Thanks, its a prickley pear cactus rose. I tried to show what we sing about but didn't want the actual cactus in the picture wanting to show how we think this is as pretty (or more) than a "normal" yellow rose which did not exist in Texas when the song was written - they say...
